Talks

I do the following talks to groups such as U3A, WI and community groups.
  • Working with Glass
  • Artistic Photography
  • Travelling Solo on a Shoestring

Please contact me to discuss your requirements.

Working with Glass

I love to talk about my work and how I got into making glass. I bring along lots of samples of glasswork to pass around the audience and if the facilities allow, I also do a computer slideshow.

The talk is lighthearted, humorous and informative and often prompts many questions from the audience, who become interested in how glass is made.

I can do a talk of any length to fit in with your group's needs. I've spoken to U3A groups, schools, WIs, friendship groups, community art groups, Scouts, Guides, Beavers, and Brownies -- groups of any age.

Artistic Photography

I am always armed with my camera and looking out for an unusual or interesting shot.  I don't really follow any photographic rules and take images that I think will make an interesting picture rather than being technically perfect.  This talk is about what I look for and how I achieve my creative images as well as background to where and why I took the photograph.

This talk is illustrated by slideshow images from a computer and is light hearted and informative.

Travelling Solo on a Shoestring

I love going off on my own to destinations around the world.  I have found that being alone whilst travelling can be much more interesting than going as part of a couple or a group.

Many people find the prospect of doing such a thing daunting, but to me it is very exciting and certainly things happen that would not happen if I were with someone else. This talk is about how I have come to love this solo travelling, how I do it on a shoestring and why I am rarely lonely.

This talk includes some of the adventures I have had in different parts of the world, from Fiji to outback Australia, from Hawaii to being a guest of the Sami people of Swedish Lapland, from travelling by train cattle truck train in Indian to the bullet train around Japan and much more!

I am local co-coordinator for 5W (Women Welcome Women Worldwide) an organisation which encourages friendship and travel between women around the world.  This is a great organisation for women travelling alone.

This is a humorous and interesting talk with a mixture of music, slideshow, readings and with some items to pass around.
